On occasion, when running Accelerated Reader (Renaissance Software) on a MS Windows PC you can get the error message:
"There are no classes available"
Solution:
The data location for AR Student is kept in the file:
C:\Windows\AccReadr.ini
This file should look like:
[AccReader Update]
Data Path=C:\ACCREADR\ACCREADR\
Application Path=C:\ACCREADR\
[CORE]
Startup State=0
(Note: you may have additional sections such as:
[TipOfTheDay]
GENTIP.TPSNum=2
GENTIP.TPSOn=0
[WINDOW]
IsMaxed=0
Height=511
Width=718
YCoord=60
XCoord=82
You only care about the "Data Path" entry. If it is set to "C:\ACCREADR\ACCREADR\" then AR is looking for it's data on your local PC's hard drive (C:). This is the problem. However, merely deleting the Data Path line from this file does not work: it will merely re-create the Data Path line with C:\AccReader\AccReadr again.
To solve this problem, DELETE the following files:
Then, when you re-run ARStudent, you will get the Accelerated Reader Registration Wizard to run, which will let you select the data location out on your server (R: or whatever you have it mapped to) instead of C:
==>Next ==>Register this product using a previous installation ==>Next ==>Select Location (A location has not been selected) ==>Look in (click on down arrow at the right side of this box) ==>Ar on "Ourserver (R:) (or whatever your WIndows file server's name and mapped drive letter) ----------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't have a mapped drive entry here, then Click on "Network Neighborhood, find your server, ... Double click on your server name (if you don't find it, click on "Entire Network", then find your Workgroup (or domain) name of your file server (e.g. DPS), then find your server name and double-click on it. You should now see your AR shared folder on this server. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have found your AR folder out on the server, you are most likely looking for the "Alsdata" folder in this folder (unless you installed it somewhere besides this default folder name)), so: ==>==> (Double Click) on "Alsdata" Now it should say: "Look in: Alsdata" Directory: R:\ALSDATA (or whatever the correct network path name) ==OK Now it says: Select Location: R:\ALSDATA\ ==>Next ==>Finish You should now see the class list for your school.
